It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere… Just like margaritas, not all Buffett lovers are made the same. So whether you like the classics or if remixing it up floats your banana boat here’s a cocktail for everyone ready to put their fins—and two thumbs—up!

Oldie but goodie

Looking for the perfect pairing for your Cheeseburger in Paradise? Is Jimmy’s top hit “Margaritaville” still your fave? Than a classic margarita, complete with a recipe that’s easy to remember even if you’ve already had a few: 3 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, and 1 part lime juice. (Hint from Bon Appetit: though Buffett may conjure up thoughts of the Keys—and its limes—common Persian limes are best here since they’re less acidic.) Now your only question is…

Sugar or salt?

More into love songs like “Survive” or “Bigger Than the Both of Us”? Sip on a sugar rim with your sweetie in the back yard as the sun sets and make your own Caribbean paradise. Or, are you a jilted lover with “Stranded on a Sandbar” on loop? A salt rim may be more up your alley if your relationship’s been on the rocks. Speaking of which…

Ice, ice baby

The right kind of ice is key if you’re floating on a “Sea of Heartbreak”—smaller chunks melt faster and will dilute your tipple, so size really matters in this relationship. Or, try freezing some mixed margarita beforehand in a cube tray to use for an on-the-rocks version that still packs an adult punch when it melts.

Frozen

Though the thought of any concert can instantly transport Parrotheads to the finest summer day, one of Buffett’s most popular live ditties was inspired by the cold February climes of Boston. “Boat Drinks” is all about the spirit of wanderlust, written after a visit to a bar owned by a Boston Bruins hockey player. Celebrate the power of music as an escape with a frozen margarita in honor of the boys on the ice.

Remixed

Perhaps nothing goes better with “Chicken Fried” than a beergarita, that delightful blend of ice-cold South of the Border brew and tart tequila and lime. While it may sound like a frat party experiment gone wrong, the results are as delightfully on-the-money as Jimmy’s cover of James Taylor’s “Mexico” and “Knee Deep” and “Toes”mashups with the Zac Brown Band.

Fruity

There’s a lot more than the sublime lime when it comes to mixing it up, and a little bit of “Juicy Fruit” can add the benefits of Vitamin C to your favorite indulgence. (It just may also add some liquid courage to those looking to get their dance on with the “Last Mango in Paris,” too!)

Virgin

Got those parakeets in tow? Proud Parrotheads driving around the minivan can keep a skip in their step when skipping the tequila with some fun options that include a little spritz. Even better, a simple mix of orange juice, limeade, and lemon and lime sparkling waters saves some calories for a bikini-ready beach bod or the next tailgating feast.
